What did you experience at BCMMGC2023?
As we look to the future, it's clear that the economic landscape will continue to evolve at a rapid pace. In today's uncertain and volatile environment, it's more important than ever for businesses and investors to stay informed and adapt quickly to change. That's why we developed a conference program that tackled some of the most pressing, and interesting, issues of today. Our expert speakers shared their insights and strategies on a range of topics, from emerging trends to investment opportunities, that are essential for navigating the current economic climate. We continued to make networking a top priority, providing attendees with ample opportunities to connect and collaborate with industry peers and colleagues. We believe that by creating a collaborative and supportive environment, we can foster innovation and continue to drive growth in the BC Middle Market.
Private Market M&A Update: We've all seen the headlines and read the articles - deal activity is down significantly year-over-year, but what does the rest of 2023 look like and where are there pockets of opportunity for investors? Leo Wilson, Managing Director, KPMG Corporate Finance walked us through the state of the M&A markets in BC.
Economic Update: Interest rates at a post-GFC peak, unpredictability of inflation, and inverted yield curve. Where do we go from here? We heard the latest insights and outlook from Michael Gregory, Managing Director and Deputy Chief Economist at BMO Capital Markets.
Investing in Sustainability: Our panelists explored the trends in sustainable investing and clean technology, and Canada's focus on becoming and remaining a global leader in new cleantech investments.
Finding Value in Turbulent Situations: The current economic environment has led to stress across multiple businesses and industries. Our panel discussed working through difficult situations with multiple invested stakeholders, as well as finding compelling opportunities by being able to see through the noise.
Consolidation and Rollup Platforms: We gained a deeper understanding of the latest trends and key updates in BC's prominent consolidation and rollup platforms. From investors funding these strategies, to management teams executing on the opportunities, the session was designed to provide you with valuable insights into the inner workings of these platforms.
Value Creation in M&A: We heard an insightful discussion on how to create value in M&A transactions and within portfolio companies. In the current economic climate, it is more crucial than ever to develop effective strategies for optimizing investments and maximizing results. Our panelists shared their expertise, experience, and best practices, aiming to provide the audience with valuable case studies and actionable strategies.
Keynote session: We were excited to announce Phil Arrata, current Partner at Champlain Financial and former CEO of iconic Vancouver retailer, MEC as our keynote speaker. Phil also participated in a podcase with Business in Vancouver's Executive Editor, Kirk LaPointe - check it out here!
